About Us

We provide free math and science tutoring in Halifax, NS!

Founded in 2013 by Loran Morrison and Chloe Zinck, SHINE Academics is a non-profit organization that has been developed and maintained by volunteer university students and young professionals in Halifax and Dartmouth. SHINE strives to make learning math and science fun by nurturing the academic abilities of all students, enabling them to happily achieve their goals in and out of the classroom. With a passion for helping youth, along with strong academic backgrounds, the SHINE team is fully prepared to help any student with the unique academic challenges that he or she is facing. Students within the Halifax Regional Municipality, primarily those within the North End community, will be accepted for private or group tutoring, in math or science, as long as spaces are available; no student will be turned away based on academic or financial circumstances.

This independent non-profit initiative has been made possible by the contributions of many individuals, including volunteers, teachers, and librarians. With full financial support from Gordon Stirrett Wealth Management, this program remains completely free for its students, while providing them with access to all materials and resources necessary for a positive and meaningful learning experience.

In Halifax, SHINE sessions take place between 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday each week, in the space graciously provided by the Halifax North End Memorial library. SHINE Dartmouth, started in the spring of 2018, takes place each week at the Dartmouth North Library on Wednesday, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. We welcome you to pop by our sessions while they're in action, or contact us by email, to learn more about how you can get involved!

Support, Help, & Inspire through Non-profit Education. Let it SHINE!
